The Grade 2 Australian Champions Hawthorn Pipe Band have announced Steven Shedden as their new Lead Drummer.
PM Kyle Warren said, “It’s very exciting to welcome Steven to the band. He has played at the very top of Grade 1 for over a decade since the age of 13. He has won every Grade 1 drum corps title during his time with Boghall and Bathgate, Shotts and Dykehead and Spirit of Scotland and more recently was a member of the Glasgow Police. He has won 2 World Solo Drumming Juvenile titles and this year he was one point from making the World Solo Drumming Final. To have someone of his calibre who is active and hungry living in Australia made him the perfect fit for the band.”
The band would like to take this time to also acknowledge our previous leadership placing on record our thanks firstly to Scott Birrell for his time in charge. Scott led the band for 5 years in which time he built a strong drum corps which had consistent success – the highlight being the 2018 Australian Pipe Band Championships. The band would also like to place on record our thanks to Ben Jones who lead the corps since Scott stood down and maintained the competitive results with a drum corps and band win at the recent ACT Championships.”
Hawthorn Pipe Band is 104 years old and in 2019 is embarking on it’s first ever trip to the World Championships to compete in Grade 2.
Warren said “It’s an exciting time for the band. Our goal is to get the band to Grade 1 and to do that we have to make the journey to test ourselves against the best bands in the grade.”
